Description: The lead forum on tropical medicine and hygiene, the meeting offers hundreds of presentations and posters on the latest findings, outcomes, and best practices in the field.  It provides symposia and sessions that shed light on policy, advocacy and funding, as well as many networking opportunities to help attendees from around the world engage in partnerships and collaboration.

Past Event: Schistosomiasis and Soil-transmitted Helminths MDA Training

Location: Kenema and Makeni, Sierra Leone

Dates: May 1 (Kenema) and May 3 (Makeni), 2013

Description: In preparation for upcoming MDAs to prevent schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminths, Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health (MOH) will “train the trainers” (TOT) of the southeastern, northern and eastern districts on May 1 and 3, 2013. The training will help District NTD Focal Points, District Health Management Team members, and warehouse managers on MDA procedures and drug management, among other topics.

The MOH training will be conducted with support from Helen Keller International (HKI) and John Snow, Inc. (JSI). HKI provides ongoing support to the MOH as END in Africa’s implementing partner in Sierra Leone, and John Snow, Inc. (JSI) will contribute to the TOT effort by helping the MOH trainers integrate new material on supply chain and drug management into the training curriculum. JSI is currently working with the MOH and HKI to customize standard operating procedures on NTD supply chain and drug management.
